We've gotten quite a few questions about our adoption already, and I wanted to go ahead and answer the most common ones. If you have others not addressed here, feel free to ask, and I'll do a FAQ II post or answer you directly.
Which country in Eastern Europe will you be adopting from?
Because of our agreement with RR and for the children's privacy, we will not be able to publicly share that information.
How old are the girls you are adopting?
We don't know! We're going on what's called a blind referral. We will not know who our girls are until we are in country. We do plan to adopt older girls who will likely be at least 10, but there's just no way to know for sure until we are there.
What are the girls' names?
See above. We do not know at this time.
Will you change the girls' names?
No. We don't plan to. Unless they ask without our prompting for a different/new name, we will not change their first names. Their names are a connection to their birth families, history and culture. They are a huge part of their identity. We feel that it's one thing to change an infant or toddler's name, but it's a whole different ballgame.. different sport even.. to change an older child's name.
How long will the process take?
Travel depends upon the completion of our home study and dossier among other factors. If all goes well without paperwork hiccups or other delays, we could possibly travel and be home with our girls by Christmas.
