Levi is currently 9 days old and 35w1d gestation.
He is still in the NICU and in an isolette. All of his tests have come back clean, and he appears to be very healthy. He was just born early. His issues are simply that he needs to learn to suck, swallow and breathe at the same time, gain weight and maintain is own body temp. Over the last few days he has been sucking a bit better but is still only taking one bottle attempt per shift (so 2 per 24 hours), and usually only takes between 6-12 ccs. Each feeding right now is 36 ccs. So the vast majority of that is being given by tube. His weight is still hovering around that 4 lb mark.
Yesterday I was able to begin kangaroo care (skin to skin contact) with him. It's absolutely wonderful! I just love this time with him to do nothing but cuddle. He sleeps so well cuddled up to me, and I always hate when it's time to wrap him back up.
Over all, things are going well. Just waiting for him to eat better, grow and maintain his temp. Please continue praying for these things and that he remains healthy.

I LOVE that you are able to do kangaroo care with him. So good for you both.
ReplyDeleteHow is Micah?
yay for kangaroo care! I had one nurse that let me kangaroo Caleb two times during the first week and it really helped me deal with the stress...not to mention Caleb loved it too:-) So happy to hear he's doing well! Will keep him in our prayers!
ReplyDeleteSo great! I had never heard of Kangaroo Care until Avery was born. Such a sweet time. Praying he is home soon.
