Only one time has Levi taken a full bottle, and at the time, each feeding was 37 ccs of 24 calorie formula. He is 18 days old today.
The last few days his feedings have been 40 ccs, and he's been taking anywhere from 10-20 per bottle. He's only been getting one bottle attempt per shift, and what he doesn't finish is given through the tube.
Just yesterday they increased his feedings to two per shift, so he's getting a bottle attempt every other feeding. (His feedings are every 3 hours.) He's still only been taking half or less of each feeding.
Today Levi was up to 4 lbs. 11.9 oz. up from 4 lbs. 10.1 oz. yesterday. And they increased his feedings to 42 ccs.
My first thought was, "Great! (sarcastically) He's never (yes, a little dramatic) going to be able to take a whole bottle if they keep increasing the amount!"
3:00 rolled around and I was able to give him his bottle. He only gets 20 minutes to eat so that he doesn't wear himself out. Eight minutes in and he'd taken 30 ccs!!! 30!!
I burped him and we had a chat. "Levi, you can do this. I know you can! You have 12 minutes to take 12 ccs. And I know you can do it. But if you don't want to, if you're too tired, it's ok. I'm here 'til you're ready."
10 minutes later, he'd taken 13 more. My tiny little boy took 43 ccs today!! The nurses cheered and another mom clapped and cheered. I was elated and so proud!!
One step closer to home. Praise God!!
